Thanksgiving

Coordinating Minister's Report | Maggie Enwright, Coordinating Minister

  • Visioning Zoom workshops were well attended and participants reported that they enjoyed the chance to have input.
  • The Sanctuary Enhancement committee is working on an alternative to ordering more chairs.
  • The search for a CYF Coordinator continues.

Arts Committee | Heather Swallow, Chair

  • Halloween candies will be handed out on October 31 in front of the church. All are welcome to drop by in or out of costume. 

  • Two sessions of Advent Altar creation to be led by Merrilee Thompson are planned for November 28 and December 5 (Sunday afternoons).
  • A Coffee House or Talent Show is being planned for January 21 or 28.

  • Wednesday, December 15 is tentatively set for carols on the lawn.

Children Youth and Family Committee | Irene Griffiths, Chair

  • Deborah Laing has begun leading a parent group on Thursday evenings via Zoom.  Depending on COVID protocols and related factors, the final session on December 16 may be an in-person family gathering.  Contact Deborah or the church office for further information.

  • The Nursery opens at 9:00 on Sunday mornings to accommodate the children of choir members before church, and remains open during the service for infants and young children.

  • Faith at Home kits were delivered this week by members of the CYF committee to 30 families from the congregation, including all the singers in the Pneuma choir

Finance Committee | Julie Poznanski, Chair

  • 2022 committee budget submissions due Dec 3

  • Assistance under the CEWS program ends October 23.  This program was a lifeline in early days and we are grateful for the assistance.

  • Loss of gym revenue will leave a significant annual shortfall of at least $30,000“Why does Pacific Spirit need my donation when we are awash in money?”  

  • The Legacy and Endowment funds are legacies from past generations that we must now responsibly steward into the future.  Our own personal engagement and financial support of Pacific Spirit ministry is an important cornerstone of strong community and growing in gratitude and generosity.

In-Reach Committee | Sally Ball, Chair

  • No report for this month.

Outreach Committee | Patricia Alexis, Chair

  • Regular initiatives continue. 

  • Outreach will send a donation of $800 from our coffee fund the CCDA in Guatemala to support their project of providing food and pandemic education/protection to 200 families in the direst need in two villages there.

Ministry and Personnel Committee | Jacqueline Kelly, Chair

  • No report for the congregation this month.

Property Development | Gordon Esau, Chair

  • No report submitted

Property Oversight Committee | Mark Mikulec, Chair

  • Gym roof progress was outlined.
  • The feasibility of security camera systems for the centre and sanctuary was reviewed
  • No progress to report regarding the ingress of water in the bell tower and east wall of the stone church.

Spiritual Nurture Committee | Chris Epting, Chair

  • No meeting this month. No report submitted.

Trustees | Doug Smart, Chair

  • No takeaways for the congregation.

Worship Committee | Merrilee Thompson, Chair

  • Creative Minds was held on Tuesday, October 26 @ 7 pm via Zoom. This event was to imagine and brainstorm to assist the ministry team in their planning for Advent worship. Creative Minds is always open to participation from all.
  • A part-time Tech Assistant has been hired to assist Jordan Esau in the production of our live streaming services. 
  • For Christmas Eve, we will hold two services (4:00 PM and 9:00 PM) as registered/ticketed events. Both services would be live-streamed. The 4:00 service will be a family-oriented service and the 9:00 is a traditional choral service. Attendance will be limited and current Covid protocols will apply.
